The first day was hot - way too hot for a few east coasters mid-April. We planned close to 100km every day for the first three days, and it was evident by 30km on the first day that goal was not being achieved. At 30km in, we had to climb up Green Mountain Road, which was approximately 8km long with 300m elevation. It's not a terrible situation for someone who has been frequently cycling before this ascent, but for us, this was the end. Until we made it to the top, and the views were gorgeous and we decided this wasn't actually that bad. This is how it goes, usually, on hot days and 15% uphill climbs.

By the end of the day, we were beat - I was delusional due to the heat, nausea, lack of food, and Derik was hungry, tired, and ready for Whiskey. Luckily, we made it to Seaquest State Park, where we camped beneath the shadow of Mt. St. Helen's and woke up the next morning with birds, more heat, and trees.

Seaquest to Centralia:

Our goal was to go another 100km, to Millersylvania State Park, but we only made it to Centralia, since it was another hot day, and being already broken (mentally and physically) from the first day, we slugged our way over to Motel 6 in Centralia, where we crashed and polished off the beer and cider we had leftover from Mum's place. It was there we decided to take it easy tomorrow and go 30km's to our original destination of Millersylvania State Park.

Centralia to Millersylvania:

Even after a good nights sleep, breakfast, and flat roads, we were still beat. Luckily, on the road down to the State Park, there was Sandstone Distillery about 5km's before our destination. We took a detour, tasted all they had to offer, were given a tour of the facility, and cycled to the park with a bottle of Whiskey! The rest of the evening was spent chilling in the hammock, walking the trails in the park and eating two dinners.
